    Hi,

I am 5 months pregnant and they found a white spot on the heart, which i assume is a IEF? I wasnt too worried as my blood test and the other ultra sound all came back low risk, however i have now found out that i my sister had a baby with downs, my dads brother had one and my dads aunt. Does anyone know what i should be thinking or feeling right now? Im so worried, but i dont want to terminate, but im not sure how i will come to terms with this?

    • I have a 10 month old with Downs. We were not really expecting it even though my tests returned with high possibilities of Downs. I wish I had known what to expect. Having a heads up you can do some research and find out what difficulties there may be, learn and be prepared for anything. My Khloe was born with a heart defect along with her downs. My doc’s and I decided to induce labor which led to an emergency C-Section. We should have been better prepared and taking a few more precautions. Not knowing and being suprised led to a very stressful couple of months adjusting to having a special needs child. Of course it will still be stressful, but it won’t be unexpected. The most helpful thing anyone has told me is to just treat her as I would any other baby. Love her care for her needs, take her to the doc’s when needed etc. etc. Everything works itself out. We learned when Khloe was 5 months old that she would need more than one surgery, so 1 at 6 months for a PDA and a coarctation of her aorta. then another at 7 months for her AV canal defect and she now has an internal pacemaker. Over all though she is doing well and growing like any other baby.
So go ahead and feel worried and scared, along the way you can find out more about Downs Syndrome and learn about the beautiful bundle of joy you may be expecting. Then if it turns out the baby does not have Downs well, you now some things that you did not before and will feel even more blessed to have a healthy baby.

    • I never heard of it being heritarey(SP) But there has been some people told their child will be born with downsyndrome and the test were wrong and the baby was fine. It doesn’t happen everyday but it does happen. I’ll pray for you.

    • Dear Dani leave it to God. Mean while get all the info.,educations on downs + the complication that comes with it. My daughter is 7 months,
we found out after delivery, we are dealing with the hirshbrungs, which she had surgery,& the 2 holes in the heart asd, vsd. We had few months of stressful along, asthma & chest infection & bowel. Thank God afterbumping milk few months now she breast feeds & growing well. She brings us joy to care for her. No matter what fate holds for you, you will fall in love with the baby, besides who are we to question the creation of God. As I searched the internet, I saw identical twin boys with DS. I have also seen devastating congenital/genetical abnormality
which made me to be humble & thankful for what I have. May god be with you onthis difficult time, after hardship comes easy. Our lives & routines are back to normal & our house hold is busy with 5 children. So life will go on..
