Hi, I have no idea what I’m doing but I’ll give it a try. I’m 18 and I’m 15 weeks pregnant. I just discovered last week that my odds are 1.76 in having a DS baby. My partner and myself have decided we don’t want to risk harming the baby in doing the diagnostic test. I’m really scared. I really want children, I’m a childcare worker and want…[Read more]

Hi Everyone. My name is Niamh Mc Ardle, I live in Ireland and have 2 sons, Zach and Alex. Zach is 5 and Alex is 4 and Zach has Downs Syndrome. We didn’t know when Zach was born that he had downs. He passed all the usual paediatric tests and it was only when I looked at him later on that I thought he had some of the usual downs features. I…[Read more]

    • Great story Niamh…it always seems to work that way, initial worry and concern, followed later by a thrilling life of enjoyment! I know where you came from, my daughter was a 1 in 4,600 chance of having Down syndrome, yet here I am. The support is so crucial so for anyone out there I’d like to add to Niamh’s thoughts by saying GO GET that…[Read more]

Happy to be here and excited to meet some amazing people associated with Down syndrome. Only if I knew how to ”crop my Avatar” then I could post a picture of my little one. I have a long Labor Day weekend so I have some time to figure out what’s most likely something very easy to do! :)

Hi my name is christina, My son Gabriel has down syndrome. he is two and we are having a hard time getting him to eat. some say it’s because he is picky some say he wants to do it himself. anyone else have this problem? any advice??

    • do you guys go through early on ?? that sounds like a really good question for the ocupational therapist.. they have answered so many questions about that kind of stuff for me.. although now savannahs just the opisite if i let her feed herself she shuvs handfulls of food in her mouth

    • although one big thing for her and eating was she would choke really easy because her muscles were too weak.. so just to make sure hes not struggling i would bring it up to the doc and see if they wanna do some kind of test or the early on therapist could come over and watch him eat and tell you whats going on….. good luck :)

    Hi,
I’m Jen and I’m Mom to 4 month old twins, Wyatt and Zoe. Wyatt has DS, Zoe does not. They also have an older brother Quinn who is 5.

Any DS/Non DS twin parents: how did you juggle the differences in development?
Any twin parents: How did you manage to juggle twins and older children?

    • Hello Jen! My name is Leslie and like you, I also have twins, one with & one b/g. Their names are Rudy & Veronica and my “babies” will be 25 in a week. HI All, My daughter was born on new years day. We found out after she was born she had down syndrome (the hospital did a genetic test to confirm), so it was quite a shock. While at the hospital she had an ultrasound of her heart, and there were no problems at all. We have her first appointment with a geneticist next week, and I ordered a book…[Read more]

    • I guess I posted in the wrong area. oops. You are headed into a life time of real love from your child. They are neurtured thru our love and commitment. Your area should have a early on program(check with your school, or DOC) They should start seeing her right away and they can guide you through most of your questions etc. Ask me anything and I…[Read more]

    • Hi Frank. Like you, we didn’t know our baby had DS until after he was born. Actually he was 3 days old when we found out. My advice is, if you haven’t already, find a pediatrician who is knowledgable about DS. Our pediatician has been great. They should be able to recommend a good developmental school or some place to go for early intervention.…[Read more]

    • I have a 10 month old with Downs. We were not really expecting it even though my tests returned with high possibilities of Downs. I wish I had known what to expect. Having a heads up you can do some research and find out what difficulties there may be, learn and be prepared for anything. My Khloe was born with a heart defect along with her downs.…[Read more]
